beak

We were at the Rose Garden here in Portland and I saw this knotted, gnarled branch. It looked too much like a bird or lizard to pass up, I had to take its picture. Paul laughed, but I think it turned out really cool.

In other news, I’ll be leaving tomorrow for the Motherland (Juneau, Alaska) for my brother’s graduation. I won’t be back until June 5th so Paul is going to fill in for me. I’m definitely bringing my camera, so hopefully the weather will be nice and I’ll get some good shots. I’ve got some ideas planned, but we’ll see if conditions are right.

And the amazing-I-wish-it-happened-to-me story of the day is about a guy in England whose grandfather gave him a cup to play with as a child and use for target practice with his BB gun. He kept it in a shoebox under his bed since 1945 or so. He was moving and decided to get it appraised. Turns out, it was hammered out of one solid sheet of gold by the Persians hundreds of years before the birth of Christ. It’s estimated to be worth close to 500,000 pounds (988,000-dollars). You can read the full story here.
